At Chaminade-Madonna, our Mission reminds us that individuals of this community share their faith, achieve excellence, and become caring participants and leaders in the service of community, church, and those in need. The Service Learning Program promotes the leadership and personal involvement of our students in the giving of time, treasure, and talent to their community. Service is an integral part of our education since it provides an opportunity to shape students' values and helps to further the intellectual, personal and social growth of our students.
As stipulated by the Handbook: Each student is required to complete a minimum of 25 hours of community service per year by April 30th according to the guidelines provided by the Campus Ministry Office. In order to be considered for the Community Service Award, which is celebrated at the Top Ten Dinner, students must also complete the following additional hours:
- Grade 9: Mandatory 25 service hours PLUS AN ADDITIONAL 50 HOURS
- Grade 10: Mandatory 25 service hours off campus PLUS AN ADDITIONAL 75 HOURS (this does not include hours accrued for the freshman year)
- Grade 11: Mandatory 25 service hours off campus PLUS AN ADDITIONAL 100 HOURS (this does not include hours accrued for the sophomore year)
- Grade 12: Mandatory 25 service hours off campus PLUS AN ADDITIONAL 125 HOURS (this does not include hours accrued for the junior year)
Service hours in any given year must be completed by April 30. Hours completed after April 30th will be recorded for the following year. If the minimum requirement for service hours is not completed, special arrangements must be made with the Director of Campus Ministry to remediate the hours.
It is important to note that, in addition to demonstrated need, annual financial aid eligibility is contingent upon the document completion of the annual 25 hour service requirement. Failure to complete the required service may put the financial aid application in jeopardy of denial.
Campus Ministry Guidelines:
Students of each class can achieve service in multiple ways. For the freshmen all hours done for the school community or outside the school will count for the required 25 hours. For upperclassmen (sophomore, juniors and seniors) 25 service hours have to be off campus on a pre-approved location. (see locations below) All hours done at the school community will be counted towards the additional hours for the Learning Service Award. (Due date for Service learning award is on February 22, 2019)
Students may do service through:
1. On campus through service clubs: (Note for upperclassmen: Will not count towards required 25 minimum)

2. Through the House System service opportunities that will be announce throughout the year: (Note for upperclassmen: If the activity is on Campus it might not count for your required 25 minimum)
a. Each House will have a minimum of two service activities.
b. All houses will have a service activity in Make a Difference day on October 27.
3. Picking one of the approved service venues and filling out the Service Learning Form and make sure the organization/ Agency signs and handing them in to their Theology teacher.

4. If a student wishes to do service outside our approved list, they need to fill a Pre-Approval Service Learning Form. IF FORM IS NOT HANDED IN AND APROVED BY THE CAMPUS MINISTER PRIOR TO SERVICE, THE HOURS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. The agency or organization needs to fulfill the following criteria:
a. It must be in a non-profit organization, Church or Agency.
b. No monetary compensation can be given to the student.
c. Service will not be counted if it is to an individual, family member or neighbor.
d. The agency or organization needs to be in accordance with Catholic Teaching
If the minimum requirement for service hours is not completed by April 30th, special arrangements must be made with the Director of Campus Ministry to remediate the hours during summer school.
For seniors who fail to comply with the service hours minimum, they will not receive their diploma or transcripts until hours have been remediated.
