St. Louis Woman Shares Story of "Miraculous" Cure
On January 4, the C-M Family had the unique experience of listening to the amazing story of a young St. Louis woman, Rachel Baumgartner Lozano.  Rachel was cured of terminal cancer and she, her family and friends believe the cure was a miracle they prayed for through the intercession of Blessed William Joseph Chaminade.

After battling a rare and aggressive form of cancer called Askin's Tumor throughout high school, doctors discovered a recurrence of the cancer in Rachel's chest.  Radiation and chemotherapy were no longer treatment options, and it was estimated she had 3-4 months to live.  Rachel and her family refused to give up hope, and prayed daily to Blessed Chaminade.  Their prayers were answered when a doctor moved to St. Louis and was confident he could safely remove the tumor.  The tumor, which had grown to the size of a small nerf football, was removed successfully.  Following a biopsy, it was determined that this tumor had somehow died inside of Rachel with very little treatment.

It has been 7 years since the tumor was removed from Rachel's chest, and she has remained free of cancer.  She is the only known survivor of Askin's Tumor to have lived that long, and her case continues to stump the medical community.  Rachel now travels the world sharing her experience, and is working towards her Masters in Counseling and Art Therapy.  She blogs daily at www.obsessedwithlife.com.

Blessed William Joseph Chaminade founded the Society of Mary (the Marianists) in 1817.  He was beatified in 2000, and is currently under consideration for sainthood by the Vatican.

Alumni Baseball Game and Annual Spaghetti Dinner

Each year the Alumni Hall of Fame Committee selects the class of inductees into the prestigious Alumni Hall of Fame, based on nominations from C-M alums.  We are pleased to announce this year's inductees:  Julius "Skip" Farinhas '75, Kevin Rieth '76, Mary Anne Turrie-Karcher '76, Donna Fierro Wagener '78, and Luigina "Gina" D'Onofrio Billisi '93.  These alumni have excelled in their personal and professional lives by carrying out the C-M motto, Toward a Better World.

The Committee has also selected the Alumni Appreciation Award winners, Mr. Jeffrey Caballero and Mrs. Carol Manzella.  Both have dedicated 10 years of service to C-M, Mr. Caballero as Theology Department Chair, and Mrs. Manzella as Admissions Coordinator.

Mass will be held at Nativity Catholic Church at 5:30 P.M., followed by the induction ceremony and celebration in the C-M Cafe at 6:30 P.M. on Saturday, March 10.
